Yamaha – MX-88 – Synthesizer Notes

I originally purchased the Yamaha MX-88 for use as a stage piano for visiting musicians. The Yamaha MX-88 is a Yamaha Motif with a crappier interface and MIDI implementation. The sound engine is identical and hackable.

Local Control

1. Press [UTILITY] button
2. Select “02:MIDI” by using the cursor [∧]/[∨] buttons
3. Press [ENTER] button. 
4. Select “LocalCtrl” = “off” [ENTER].

Warning! When this instrument is used by itself and this parameter is set to off, no sound is produced even if you play the keyboard.

Factory Reset

1. Press [UTILITY] button
2. Press [JOB] button. 
3. Select “02:FactrySet,” by using the cursor [∧]/[∨] buttons
4. Press [ENTER] button. 
5. Press [ENTER] button again when “Job Factory Set” appears in the display. 
6. When the display ask you “Are You Sure?”, press [INC/YES] to confirm “Yes” and to execute the function.

Warning! When you execute “Factory Reset”, all the Performance, User Voice, and system settings in the Utility display you created will be erased. Before you perform this operation, check whether there is any data you want to keep.

Turn Off Sequencer

Press Rhythm Pattern, then the Down arrow until you see AutoKeyOnStart, then press Dec/No. After that, it won’t start a drum pattern when you press a key.
